Google Maps Now Shows'Lake America' Instead of Lake Ontario After Donald Trump's executive order demanding the name change, Google is the first major online maps provider to flip the switch. Lake Ontario is no more on Google Maps in the US. Google changed the name of easternmost of the Great Lakes to "Lake America" late Saturday, days after President Donald Trump ordered its rebranding in official government databases. Trump issued the executive order on Thursday as part of an ongoing feud over tariffs with Canada, whose capital province is called Ontario. It followed a similar order he issued in January 2025 to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America as part of a fight with the US trading partner to the south.

The performers are asking Prime Minister Andy Burnham to introduce legislation which would give every person in the UK a legal right to own their voice. Voice clones are created by training AI on recordings of real people. Quick versions can be made in minutes from a few seconds of audio, but high-quality copycats tend to require hours. Audiobook narrator Alice Sockett, who co-founded the campaign, called it an existential threat to our entire industry.

A judge has ruled the US Department of Defense acted unlawfully when it designated artificial intelligence (AI) startup Anthropic a supply chain risk, calling the move illegal and baseless. The company argued in the lawsuit that Defense Secretary Pete Hegeth overstepped his authority with the new designation. It followed Anthropic's refusal to allow the military to use its AI models for things that included surveillance or autonomous weapons. US district judge Rita Lin said in the ruling that citing national security is not a blank check to punish and retaliate against government critics. Anthropic said it welcomes the ruling.

'Cowboy builders' targeted in new government clampdown People carrying out home renovations will gain greater protections against cowboy builders through a new database of trusted traders and a payment system offering more safeguards, the government has said. Traders signing up to the scheme launching next month will need to demonstrate certain standards of customer service, transparency and dispute resolution. Prime Minister Andy Burnham said unscrupulous tradespeople leave families with months of stress as well as unfinished work. The National Federation of Builders said the changes would not stop rogue operators while the Tories suggested there would be added paperwork for firms already operating legitimately. Citizens Advice has said home renovations are one of its biggest sources of consumer complaints.
